Update On I-210 Bridge Jumping Incident In Lake Charles
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Marine Division, Coast Guard, and more rushed to the scene after a motorist called 911 and said they saw someone jump off the I-210 bridge this morning at about 6:50 am. DOTD released a traffic advisory for the I-210 bridge, alerting motorists that traffic was brought to a screeching halt due to a stalled/stopped vehicle at the top. The traffic has since cleared.
Our sister station Gator 99.5 later revealed motorists were calling in from the scene saying a person jumped from the bridge and traffic was backed up. The investigation is ongoing as authorities are trying to identify the owner of the vehicle left at the top of the 210 Bridge. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso confirmed that someone did indeed jump from the bridge. He said they rushed to the scene hoping to make a rescue, but that is no longer the case now. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Marine Division, the Coast Guard and other agencies are now working to recover the body of the unidentified individual.
Sheriff Mancuso said they found an object in the water, with sonar equipment and believe that could be the body. Be on the lookout for a briefing on the tragic incident from the local news networks or the CPSO in the coming hours, as more details are made available.
