If there is one thing about the holiday season that I do not look forward to it is the hanging of the Christmas lights. The Christmas season is about joy, giving, and celebration. Meanwhile, every year I am expect to either risk life and limb to climb up a ladder to hang lights, or I can shell out several hundred dollars to get someone else to do it for me. Well, I say "bah humbug" to that!

Take this viral TikTok video for example. The dad in this video is trying to give his family and the neighbors a beautiful and festive scene to look at when after the sun goes down, and instead, he may have just given his family nothing more than a big hospital. To make matters worse, half of the lights came down with him and the ladder when he fell.

We bought a new house this year. We upgraded from a single-story home to a two-story, and when we were purchasing the house in the summer the last thing I was thinking about were the logistics of hanging Christmas lights. It turns out that my options were to purchase a $300 ladder and risk falling to my death, rent a boom lift for $500 and risk death, or pay someone $500 and wish I was dead.

Luckily, I moved next door to the coolest dude that I've ever met. He works in construction. Not only does he spend a lot of time on rooftops, but he also had a ladder. Within thirty minutes he was up on the roof and back down in just half an hour. As a bonus he didn't even tell my wife that he did it. As far as she knows I faced my fears and did the unthinkable for her and our daughter.

So shoutout to all of the people out there helping your neighbors that don't have the guts nor the tools to get on the roof and hang those lights. You are the real heroes.
