Karma the K9 Officer Makes a Big Bust in Waco
A driver charged with transporting drugs got a dose of karma on November 11th in the form a K9 officer named Karma. According to KWTX, A Texas Dept. of Public Safety trooper pulled over a guy driving a Jeep Compass near the Baylor campus on I35 after police say the guy was speeding, tailgating, and driving in the passing lane without passing other cars. Little did the guy know that traffic infractions would not be the worst of it.
The Details of the Traffic Stop in Waco
The Texas trooper found that Jaime Alberto Vanegas did not have a driver’s license. According to KWTX, after Vanegas gave the officer permission to search his vehicle, Karma the drug sniffing K9 went to work, alerting the officer to a hidden compartment in the floor of the vehicle. DPS documents said 10 bricks weighing a total of 24 pounds were found in the hidden compartment and tested positive for fentanyl.
A Drug Cartel Link in the Arrest
According to KWTX, the fentanyl inside the vehicle belonged to a drug cartel. According to the warrant, “The packaging was removed from the kilos and revealed imprinted stamps into the bricks that are consistent marking used by a specific drug cartel organization that has been designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.” Jaime Alberto Vanegas was charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a criminal instrument.
