Louisiana Shoppers Warned About Whole Foods Salmonella Recall

LOUISIANA - Whole Foods Market has recalled dozens of prepared food products sold in 12 states, including Louisiana, because they may contain jalapeno peppers potentially contaminated with Salmonella.

The recall is part of a larger food safety issue involving jalapenos in other products that has already resulted in hundreds of reported illnesses across the country, including Louisiana.

Whole Foods Recall Includes Louisiana

Louisiana is among the states included in the recall, along with Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky and Ohio.

The recalled products include various prepared foods containing jalapenos, including:

Salsa
Guacamole
Pico de gallo
Dips
Other prepared foods

The products were sold with Best Before/By dates ranging from August 7 through August 16, 2026.

Customers who purchased any of the products listed should not consume them. Please discard the product or bring a valid receipt to any Whole Foods Market store for a full refund.

Whole Foods FDA Recall

Why Were The Whole Foods Products Recalled?

The issue involves jalapeno peppers that may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The jalapenos were supplied through Coast Citrus Distributors and have been linked to a larger Salmonella outbreak investigation involving illnesses reported around the country.

The contaminated jalapeno peppers were used as an ingredient in a variety of prepared foods, which is why the recall goes beyond packages of just jalapenos themselves.

In other words, you don't necessarily have to have bought fresh peppers to potentially have an affected product in your refrigerator.

What Should Louisiana Shoppers Do?

If you recently purchased salsa, guacamole, pico de gallo or another prepared food from Whole Foods, don't automatically assume it's safe just because it looks and smells normal.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look, smell or taste unusual.

Check the product against the recall information, including the product name and date.

If you find that you have an affected product, don't eat it.

Whole Foods advises customers to discard recalled products or return them to a Whole Foods location for a refund.
