Louisiana Lottery Confirms Saturday Powerball Wins in State

Saturday night at about 10 p.m. lottery players in Lafayette, Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, and just about anywhere else the Powerball Lottery game is played were gathered around their computers. The reason? The Powerball drawing that could make one person an instant billionaire.

Why Was Powerball Drawing Delayed?

All those people who were waiting at 10 p.m. last night had to wait a bit longer. The actual Powerball drawing was delayed as the game's administrators completed ticket verification. Each Powerball ticket sold must be verified by two different computer systems and last night there was an issue getting all the tickets verified, but alas, after a delay of about three hours the drawing did take place, although it was later than the scheduled time.

What Was the Powerball Top Prize?

There was a single ticket sold in Oregon that matched the numbers needed to claim the $1.3 billion top prize. Powerball released those results shortly after 5 a.m. Louisiana time.

There were Match 5 one million dollar winning tickets sold in Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Wyoming. The Powerball Jackpot for Wednesday's drawing will now revert to $20 million.

The Louisiana Lottery is offering partial confirmation of winning tickets sold in the state. We say partial because the delay in the Powerball drawing has delayed some of the information that is being made available through our sources.

While we can't confirm where the big money winners in Louisiana were sold. We can tell you that two tickets sold for Saturday's Powerball matched the numbers needed to claim a prize of $50,000.

In the Louisiana Lottery's other two Saturday draw games there were not jackpot winners reported. That means the Lotto jackpot for next Wednesday will be an estimated $625,000. The Easy 5 jackpot will continue to grow as well. It will have an estimated top prize of $210,000 when that drawing is held on Wednesday as well.
