(KMDL-FM) Grocery retailers across the United States, the Gulf South, and Louisiana are all battling inflation, changes in consumer spending habits, and growing competition to provide us with a place to "make" groceries. The Brookshire Grocery Company, which operates stores under the Super 1 Foods moniker, is facing the same struggles across its 200-plus-store footprint.

As a result, the company will shutter four stores in the coming weeks. Three of the stores will be in Louisiana; the other will be in southern Arkansas. The decision, according to Brookshire's, was made following a comprehensive review of store performance. The review also assessed market conditions and the potential for long-term sustainability.

In the end, it was decided that the four stores would cease operation on July 24th of this year. He also expressed gratitude for the communities that supported the stores during their tenure in those towns.

Unfortunately, all of the towns affected by the closure of the Brookshire's Grocery Stores are smaller communities. The company operates several stores under several different brands. As we've mentioned, Brookshire's and Super 1 Foods are the most relatable to shoppers in Louisiana. The company also operates markets under the Spring Market, FRESH by Brookshire's, Reasor's, and FRESH by Reasor's banners.

The stores that will be closing in Louisiana are locations under the Brookshire banner. Those closures will take place in Rayville, Winnfield, and Grambling, Louisiana. The store in Ashdown, Arkansas, will also be closing. Earlier this year, in April, Brookshire also shuttered a store in White Hall, Arkansas.

This is far from doom and gloom for the company. It's a strategic move by company officials to foster strength and robust growth for the future. Brookshire has continued to open new locations across Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma, and the current plan is for more stores in the future.
