
Roads in Louisiana Rank Among the Nation’s Worst Once Again
If I told you Louisiana has bad roads, you would probably say "what's new". Well a new study shows our roads are in pretty bad shape, but we are not the worst in the country. But we are close to the bottom of the pack.
The latest ConsumerAffairs’ annual road quality report says Louisiana has the 7th-worst roads in the nation. If you've heard folks say the roads in our state are tearing up their cars, you are not along.

The Consumer Affairs team ranks all 50 states based on how rough roads are in rural and urban areas, and how many deadly accidents happen on them.
How Does Louisiana Shape Up?
21% of Louisiana's rural roads are in poor condition. That's about 1,100 miles of roadways. We are 6th-worst in the nation in this category.
44% of our urban roads (about 1,400 miles), are in poor condition, the 17th-worst rate in the nation.
What About Fatal Crashes
Louisiana has about 1.5 deadly accidents per 100M miles, ranking 13th out of 50 states for road safety.

There is some good news in this latest report. Louisiana had the 4th worst roads in this same report last year. So moving up to 7th worst is a bit of improvement. But we have a long way to go.
Louisiana has a backlog of more than 15 billion dollars worth of road projects. Because of that, we are playing catch-up trying to get roads repaired on a regular schedule.
