Julia Letlow Jumps into the Senate Race Against Bill Cassidy
Big political news in Louisiana. Julia Letlow has announced she is running for the U.S. Senate, challenging Republican incumbent Bill Cassidy.
NOLA.com and many other sources say Letlow made her announcement at the Business Report’s Power Breakfast. This move comes on the heels of President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Letlow. The President posted a message on Truth Social Saturday night encouraging Letlow to get in the race.
Letlow responded to the Trump endorsement:
It’s an honor to share with you, after the endorsement and encouragement from the president of the United States, Donald Trump, that I will officially be announcing my candidacy for the U.S. Senate.
Letlow got into politics in a tragic way. Her husband, Luke Letlow died as a result of complications from COVID just a few weeks after he was elected to Congress in 2020. Julia Letlow took over that Congressional seat.
Since that time, she has won two re-elections to that House Seat.
Trump had a clear message about Letlow
“I know Julia well, have seen her tested at the highest and most difficult levels, and she is a TOTAL WINNER!” Trump wrote on Saturday. “Should she decide to enter this Race Julia Letlow has my Complete and Total Endorsement. RUN, JULIA, RUN!!!
Letlow enters a crowded Republican field. State Treasurer John Fleming has been considered a tough challenger to Cassidy.
