Louisiana REAL ID Deadline Is Coming—Here’s What to Know
May 7, 2025: REAL ID Deadline for Louisiana Residents
Starting May 7, 2025, Louisiana residents aged 18 and over will need a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or state ID to board domestic flights or access secure federal facilities. A REAL ID is easily identified by a gold star in the upper right corner of the card.
Why It's Important: Without a REAL ID, you'll need to present another form of federally approved identification, such as a U.S. passport, to pass through TSA security checks. Failing to do so may result in delays, additional screening, or denial of entry at airport security checkpoints.
How to Get Your REAL ID in Louisiana: To obtain a REAL ID, visit a Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) location or an authorized Public Tag Agent. You'll need to provide documentation verifying your full legal name, date of birth, Social Security number, lawful status, and two proofs of residency.

Extended OMV Hours: To accommodate residents, select OMV offices will offer extended hours on Saturday, April 26, and Saturday, May 3, operating from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This provides additional opportunities to obtain your REAL ID before the deadline.
Cost: The fee for a REAL ID-compliant driver's license in Louisiana is $32.25, or $18.75 for residents aged 70 and older.
