Anti-Vax Nurse in Lafayette Dies After Contracting COVID
An ER nurse in Lafayette, who previously advised followers to not get the vaccine, has died after contracting COVID-19.
There are no winners in a story like this. A 24-year-old ER nurse has passed away a couple of weeks after contracting the virus. Olivia Guidry was a passionate nurse in Lafayette at Ochsner Lafayette General, who was not afraid to speak her mind and share her opinions.
Last year, she tweeted several opinions in regards to the vaccine, encouraging anyone who read her tweets to stay far away from the vaccine. According to screenshots of her tweets, one read, "This vaccine has been released using recombinant DNA faster than any vaccine in the world. It manipulates your DNA at the tiniest molecular level. Do. Not. Get. It. It's not safe."
In July of 2020, she also tweeted, "Am I the only one thinking they are trying to see how much they can control us? We are a straight-up social experiment." Her Twitter account has since been deleted but a search of her name on the platform will pull up the screenshots from her timeline.
Guidry unfortunately contracted the virus just a couple of weeks ago, in the beginning of July. Her sister, Brittany Smith, shared the grim details on her now-private Facebook page. On July 8th, Brittany wrote, "She was diagnosed with Covid several days ago. Tonight at the ER she went into a long seizure, and had to be intubated to ensure that she wouldn’t aspirate liquids.”
She was placed in a medically-induced coma last Thursday, and unfortunately died shortly after. Her parents have reportedly also been diagnosed with COVID-19.
The hospital in which she worked, Ochsner Lafayette General, has released a statement.
We are extremely saddened by the loss of Olivia Guidry, a registered nurse at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center. She was a beloved member of our hospital family and dedicated to taking care of every patient who entered our emergency department."
